After last night’s awe-inspiring Golden Globes speech, Oprah was thrust into the national conservation as a contender for the 2020 presidential nomination.
Even the White House addressed the rumors, claiming not only that it would welcome her challenge, but using the occasion to confirm that Trump is certain to run again for a second term.
“We welcome the challenge, whether it be Oprah Winfrey or anybody else,” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley told reporters, adding that Trump is “absolutely … going to run for president again.”
Amid the speculation, Oprah has finally spoken out about the prospect of her name appearing on the ticket in 2020.
NEW: A source close to @Oprah tells @tvkatesnow as of today, she has no intention of running for President in 2020:
“It’s not happening. She has no intention of running,” the source said.
Source says that’s from Oprah herself.

The rumors have stirred controversy within Democratic circles; while she is perceived as a positive role model with widespread name recognition – a foil to Trump himself, in a way – many viewed the fact that, as a television star with no experience governing, we would not have learned from the glaring mistakes of the Trump era.
While Oprah’s candidacy is now moot, the fact that there is already speculation is a testament to Democrats’ eagerness to replace Trump. While the candidate will eventually emerge, the passion surrounding it – especially so early in the process – is a step in the right direction.
