Daytime TV megastar Ellen DeGeneres took a rare political stance this morning in response to President Trump’s recent Twitter attack on billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
Last Sunday, Donald Trump took an unwarranted and unprovoked shot at the beloved talk show host and philanthropist, calling her “very insecure” for daring to discuss the President’s dozens of sexual assault and harassment accusations in her roundtable with voters on 60 Minutes.
Oprah joined Ellen on her show this morning to discuss the incident, electing to take the high road rather than wallow in the mud with the president. “I don’t like giving negativity power. I was working very hard to do the opposite of what I was hate-tweeted about” said Oprah.
Ellen, however, wasn’t about to let the President get away with his callous remarks – and proceeded to tear the president’s pathetic argument apart with surgical precision.
“Oh no you didn’t. No, no, no, he’s gone too far. Oprah is my friend. And when you mess with Oprah, you mess with me.”
Playing first a clip of Oprah’s powerful speech at the Golden Globes followed immediately by the infamous clip of the President boasting about his penis size at a Republican debated, Ellen announced that is was in fact Trump who was clearly insecure.
You know, everyone knows that when you talk about how big your hands are, it means you’re very secure. You know, everyone knows that when you talk about how big your hands are, it means you’re very secure.”
While the pernicious damage that her brand of superficial daytime television does to our brains cannot be understated – consider Ellen’s previous efforts to normalize war criminals like George W. Bush and her recent stunt where she turned our nation’s appalling income inequality into a hilarious joke – she’s definitely hit the nail on the head with this one.
